Emergency Veterinary Technician - Norman, OK 73072
Position type and expected hours of work:
- Full-time or Part-Time
- All shift options available – At least 1 weekend shift required
- Holiday shifts required
Qualifications:
- 3 years minimum experience as a veterinary technician is required.
- Previous emergency experience preferred.
- Efficient, skilled and flexible team player.
- Strong verbal and written communication, client service, and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively, discussing treatment plans and financial needs.
- Possession of strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize patients/tasks based on urgency and disease process with attention to detail.
- Strong analytical/critical thinking skills
- Strong sense of integrity, maintaining the ethical standards of the Veterinary profession, personal responsibility, accountability, and confidentiality of clients, doctors, and all staff.
- Proficient in basic medical math and Veterinary medical terminology
Emergency Veterinary Technician duties include but are not limited to:
- Nursing care: Monitoring and treatments for hospitalized patients including IVF, medication administration, daily basic medical math usage, etc.
- IV catheter placement, management and venous blood draws
- In house diagnostics: Lab machines, fecal analysis, urinalysis, Doppler blood pressure, digital radiography, assist with ultrasonography
- Induction and intubation, surgical prep and monitoring and trouble-shooting of anesthetized patients with multi-parameter monitors
- Basic animal husbandry
- Client communication and education
- Running outpatient ER cases
- Pharmacy: Filling of prescriptions, knowledge of common medications (injectable and oral), proficient at medical math calculations.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Many of these tasks will be required throughout the majority of each shift.
- Able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch
- Able to talk, hear, smell, and use hands/fingers to hold/feel
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs independently
- Able to lift over 50 lbs with assistance
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation:
- Determined based on demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience. Shift differential available for overnight shifts.
